Capturing real-world environments to showcase virtual cars
Overview
Gran Turismo is one of world’s leading race car games, but it faces stiff competition from new entertainment options. To keep players engaged long term, they created a new feature called “Scapes.” It allows players to virtually photograph cars in the game against photos of real-world backdrops, then share their creations in a community.
In this project, I brainstormed, planned, captured, processed, and delivered 225 backdrops. I captured scenes in 6 countries, found and managed assistants. The resulting work was featured on the game’s home screen to more than 8 million players and used in the “Scapes” feature tens-of-thousands of times.
How it Works
1. Select Scapes feature
2. Choose scene and car
3. Adjust camera settings
4. Capture and share
